Showcase: Armiger

Along with the Reiver I had almost completed my second Armiger.  I finished adding the basing and painted and sealed the Agrellan Earth and I have a second Armiger finished.

I painted my last Armiger in the darker purple that the rest of my Ad Mech vehicles are done in.  Since I wanted this one to be a bit different, I decided to paint him the lighter purple of my leaders to signify that he is an individual while he still is related of the group.  I tried a few other things to make him stand out but in the end the primary color and yellow skulls are the only thing that I kept.

I also tried a new crackle paint on the base.  I didn’t get the result I wanted so, I went back to the Agrellan Earth.  I also added some pink foam for some rocky outcroppings like the Dunecrawlers and other knights.  Not the greatest of basing but it helps breakup the totally flat surface.
I still have the guns for him to work on but until I find my magnets they are on hold.  Right now I can run one of each of the armigers or two warglaives.  I am ok with that.

Next up is the abominant, witch elves, and stingwings.  We are getting closer to the best month Orktober.

Questions? Comments? Pew pew pews!

Showcase: Primaris Reiver

As I said in my last post I was finishing up on a Space Marine Primaris Reiver.  I said I would have a post later this week with a showcase for him.  It is later in the week and here he is.

On My Table: 9/18/2018

I have seen a few blogger have these "On my Table" posts so I thought I would start one to show you guys I am not a total slacker.  Here are a few projects I have been working on this past week.

40k Battle Report - Renegades as IG Test

Hi all,

Had a Hurricane-canceled then reinstated mini-game day - so went big with a 1750 point list for the renegades and heretics. But I've been itching to try to them as a guard list (and get access to strategems, relics, etc.) so I decided to pull out a Brigade-Level guard list. Everything in the picture got used (finally!) Plus big Bertha - the Malcador Annihilator - got a turn. Add in a small strike force of Storm Troopers, a scout salamander, and a banewolf for a flanking maneuver, and you've got a list!

Showcase: Alternate Witch Elves

I was looking at my hobby area the other day.  There are about 30 models that I am “working” on.  I keep adding more and more models to the pile before removing any.  My goal over this month is try to clear some of them off before Orktober.  I am starting with the Witch Elves.

New Abominant and the Aberrants

While having fun with my Stingwings, I picked up the genestealer half of Tooth and Claw.  The big part of this release is the Abominant and the Aberrants.  While the Abominant is a new codex entry the Aberrant were in desperate need for a new sculpt.

Renegade Army Showcase

Hi all,

In preparing for Shorehammer this year, I've been going back and forth as to how I'll be running my Renegades and Heretics List. First, I had to see exactly what I had in the army. Mainly because I've been so focused on building and painting I never stopped to see what I actually had or needed.

Alternate Vespid Stingwings

I have been thinking about adding a unit of Vespid Stingwings to my T'au army but they are so expensive and are a finecast kit. So instead of paying $90 for two boxes of five,  I decided to lean on my favorite Polish company, Puppets War,  and make my own.

While I have been talking on twitter and Facebook about the new ork models, I have been pretty quiet here on the blog.  With the big update from Nova Open,  I feel I can now weigh in on all the info we have right now.

Battle Damaged Scenery and Big Bots!

Hi all!

Been a slow week for me, as it's the last week of summer stretching into the first week of teacher work. So I've been filling the time with using up some of this huge variety of plastic scenery filling up my wargames closet. I also wanted to try some new techniques out that have been bouncing around my brain for a while.

More Cultists and August Technical Challenge Update

Hi all,

Went on vacation this last week, and got quite a chunk done for the Renegade Army - about twenty five more cultists! This, plus the final four primaris Black Templars are done as well. So that's one entire army finished! I also made some more progress on a recently rediscovered Priest, and finished an objective marker for the Renegade army as well. Anyways, here, enjoy some pictures.

The currently finished army.

State of my Primaris Marines

After placing all the decals, I thought I would give a quick update on all full primaris army.  It still has a way to go before I call it done but here is what I have so far.

Blockade's Half-Year Roundup & End of Year Hobby Goals

Hi All,

Did a quick count for the year in the war on grey plastic. Here's the Current Count  according to my KanbanFlow board.

The butterfly strikes again!: Working with Decals

The hobby butterfly has struck again.  This time it was for a good cause.  Last week We talked about Azazel's  August Technical Painting Challenge and I pledged to take a step out of my comfort zone and finally ad the decals for my primaris marines.

First Impression Friday: Kill Team

With three games under my belt, I think I can give a good first impression of kill team.

Showcase - FW Malcador Annihilator and Renegade Cultists

Hi Everyone,

I've been doing tons of painting and building work recently (since it's summer, hence free time!) so here's the result. Another chunk of cultists for the Wisdom Hunters Army, and the assembled FW Malcador Annihilator.

Working on Necrons...

I just played my first game of Kill Team. It is a bit more complicated than regular 40k but It is much smaller.  The one thing I found out is that I needed some new models for my team.

Hobby Challenge August - Technical August

Hi everyone,

Blockade and Grenndal here. Blockade found a challenge while wandering the internet from our fellow hobbyist Azazel - The August Technical Painting Challenge. We're both going to be working on improving part of our technical skills. Here's the example list taken from his site.

Finished Black Templar Detachment - Showcase

Howdy! Seems to be a trend here where I and Grendal both disappear for long periods of time only to reappear. As usual, insert standard excuses of real life, other hobbies, and day jobs getting in the way. Here's what I've been working on, and just recently finished up.

First of all, I would like to apologize for not posting the last couple of weeks but I have returned.

Showcase: helverin upgrade

Back when Forgebane came out, I built and painted up one of the armiger warglaives.  While building it, I thought that they would release another load out later on, so I magnetized the arms. I am glad I did.

After finishing with the Morathi models I decided to go back to my roots and finish my set of hive guard.

Showcase: Mini Morathi

both Morathi

So, it is a new week and I actually had some time this weekend to do a bit of hobby-ing.  My last post I completed the large Morathi model. Well, today I have pictures of the other half of that unit, the small Morathi model.
morathi front

This model seemed to paint up quickly.  I started with the red and, before I knew it, I was finishing up the base and gluing down the basing material. While painting her, I ran into a couple of problems.

morathi left

My first problem was that the arm with the spear came off.  I decided that I would use that to my advantange and work around the spots that were hard to get to if the spear was there.  A part of me wished to do this with her head, since the hair block some of the details on her dress and back but in the end I didn't.

morathi back

Speaking of her hair, deciding which color to paint it was theother problem I had while working on the model.  I thought about matching it the the hair from the other models from the Daughters army and go with a blue.  I also thought about what the hair becomes when the model transforms into the larger model.  In the end, I decided to match the hair with the snakes on the larger model.  While I think matching the army would be nice, I thought matching the larger version made more sense.

morathi right

Completing this model finishes my pledge for the month.  I am free to move on to other projects.  I have several in the works. I think I need to try to work on some 40k models since I have had worked on a lot of AoS lately.  Hopefully, I can even find a game this Thursday. We shall see.

Have a good week!

Questions? Comments? Hissss!

Showcase: GW Birthday Primaris Captain

Last month I attended my local GW store's birthday celebration. They had a deal where if you spent $180 you would get the exclusive Primaris captain figure for free.  Let's say it wasn't hard for me to earn the free fig.

Store Review: Magelings Games

This weekend my wife and I headed to Columbia, MO for a Weird Al concert. The next day we had some time to kill and I suggested going to a local game shop. Being the awesome and supportive wife she is, she agreed.

My First Age of Sigmar Game

Last weekend I officially played in my first Age of Sigmar (AoS) game.  It was my 700pts of Daughters versus 700 point of tzhetch. Officially I won but my opponent could have won easily. I thought I would share my first thoughts and impressions of AoS.

Showcase: Hive Guard

This week is not all about the Daughters though.  I also finished working on a model I started back in 2014. I am talking about my hive guard.

Taurox and Sorcerers Finished!

Hi All,

As I've gotten distracted by video games, and our usual game days were unfortunately delayed, it's been a bit of a slow last few weeks with painting, but I managed to get some more things done after the glorious "Predator" mud-bath project. So, I finished painting up the Taurox and two kitbashed 30k Thousand Son Sorcerers that may or may not feature in a future apocalypse game.

Showcase: Forgebane Cryptek

It was hobby night at our house last night.  I finished the slaughter queen as seen in my last post and then finished the new cryptek from the Forgebane box.

Showcase: Slaughter Queen

The pledge for the month of May for my Sigmar league is a hero.  I think it is a simple pledge to give the people still working on their start collecting box a little more time to finish it up.

I got to play 40k!

After what felt like forever I finally got a game in.  I got to play against Dan from The Lonely Havocs and his DeathGuard army.  He was nice and didn't bring Morty.

Showcase: Armiger Warglaive

Yesterday I added the finishing touches on my Armiger Warglaive.  This baby knight can help his big brother getting rid of the chaff or help out the Mechanicus by bringing some heavy fire support to the table.
