Comparing lords

With then releases, the new units seem to try to fill some gaps we already have filled.  The first of these that I am looking at is the Skorpk Lord vs the Destroyer Lord.

These two units are very similar role (melee HQ) while they both are toughness(T) 6, Wounds(W) 6, with a 3+/4++ save, they have a few options that are different.

First of all, let’s look at the Destroyer lord(Dlord).  He has a BS/WS of 3+/3+, with a movement(M) of 10, Strength(S)5, and  grants rerolls of 1 in the shooting phase for wounds. he can take one weapon with typical choices are a staff of light for shooting or a warglave. The stave of light is S5 ap-2 D1 for range and S user ap-2 and D1 in close combat. The warscythe is S+2 AP-4 D2 in melee with no ranged option.

The Skorpehk Lord(Slord) is a bit dfferent.  He has a BS/WS of 2+/2+, a M of 8, S6 and grants rerolls of all 1 for all wound rolls.  He has 3 weapons base an Enmitic Annihilator, a Flensing Claw and a Hyperphase Harvester.  The annihilator is a 2d3 rage weapon at S6 ap-1D1 with the blast rule. The claw is S user with AP-1 and D1 but takes 2 attacks for every one attack made with it.  The harvester is S+2 ap-4 D3 but you subtract 1 from the hit roll when you use it.

If we start comparing the two, the Dlord is faster but does not hit as well and only gives out the rerolls in the shooting phase.  All of the The Slord's options are better than the Dlords single choice.  the only thing the staff of light has is a better AP but the chance to get up to 6 shots verse the staff's 3 could be argued a better option.  The Warscythe doesn't have the -1 to hit but the Slord has a base WS of 2+ which makes hitting with the harvester a 3+.  The Dlord already hits on a 3+ so there is no gain and the harvester does a flat 3 damage.  The Slord also has the option to use his claw for twice as many attacks for a lower AP and damage to clear out cheap hordes.

In conclusion,  I think the Slord is a clear winner.  I don't see any reason to take a Dlord anymore.  the 2 extra inches is just not enough to justify missing out on all of the other benefits the Skorpehk Lord grants.
